The challenge

Bringing a craft that thrives on the in-store experience online

Olmechi is an artisan chocolate and gelato shop in the heart of Montale, Pistoia. Filled chocolates, bean-to-bar chocolate made with cacao from Peru, Venezuela, Ecuador and Colombia, PGI hazelnuts from the Langhe, gelato made with farm milk delivered fresh twice a week, sorbets with Carmignano figs, Cantiano cherries and Garfagnana raspberries. Its story is one of carefully selected ingredients, slow production, recyclable packaging and loyal customers: an experience that lives in the face-to-face relationship at the shop.

Translating this craftsmanship into a website was the main challenge. It needed an online shop able to tell the product’s story with the same care that goes into packaging it, while also handling real complexity: seasonal gelato flavors, different chocolate lines, custom gifts. The key question was how to let customers freely build a gift box, choosing each product to include, without weighing down the shopping experience.

We built a website with a dual nature: a showcase for the brand, with sections dedicated to the chocolate shop (filled chocolates, bean-to-bar chocolate, chocolate ingots, spreads) and to the gelato shop, and an online shop that delivers the products straight to the customer’s door. The visual identity reflects Olmechi’s artisan aesthetic, its sustainable packaging and its focus on local ingredients.

The custom heart of the project is the build-your-own gift box configurator: a system that lets customers choose individual products, put together their own custom box and have the gift delivered straight to the recipient. The integration is designed to be easy for the shop to manage (updating products, prices, variants) and smooth for customers, on mobile too, with a clean, fast checkout.

Olmechi’s website is now the digital showcase of a chocolate and gelato shop that makes filled chocolates, single-origin bean-to-bar chocolate, gelato with farm milk and sorbets with local fruit. The e-commerce store is organized by product line, while the custom build-your-own gift box configurator lets customers create custom boxes by choosing the individual products to include. The architecture is designed to rank for searches related to artisan chocolate, artisan gelato in Pistoia and personalized gourmet gifts.
