The challenge

Selling hand-painted ceramics online in all their variety

Il Pennello nell’Uovo is Marta’s workshop, where every ceramic piece is painted strictly by hand and personalized to the customer’s requests. Mugs, plates, tiles, party favors, door hangers, children’s items, wall art, key holders, catchall trays: a rich, varied catalog that is always changing, because every piece is one of a kind.

The challenge was to build an e-commerce store that would showcase this uniqueness and the complexity of the catalog without letting customers get lost in a maze of categories. It needed organization by product line (tableware, home, kids, accessories) and by occasion (party favors, teacher gifts, Grandparents’ Day, Valentine’s Day), a wishlist for those not ready to buy right away, and a smooth checkout that conveyed the warmth of handmade work even through a screen.

The solution

An e-commerce store organized by product line and by occasion, with a built-in wishlist

We built an e-commerce store with a dual navigation taxonomy, designed to reach both people looking for a specific type of product (a mug, a door hanger, a key holder) and those starting from an occasion (a christening favor, a thank-you gift for teachers, a Valentine’s Day present). The categories coexist without causing confusion, because each product can be linked to several occasions and uses.

The interface reflects the warmth and authenticity of Marta’s handmade work: readable typography, carefully crafted product pages with descriptions and details on the available customizations, a wishlist to save favorites, user accounts and a built-in newsletter to stay in touch with the community. The shopping experience is clean and intuitive, designed not to break the emotional flow that takes a visitor from “I love it” to “I’ll order it.”

The process

From artisan workshop to online shop

01

Catalog analysis and mapping
A study of the workshop’s offering, mapping products by line (tableware, home, kids, accessories) and by occasion (party favors, themed gifts), and defining the dual navigation taxonomy.

02

Warm, authentic design
A visual identity that reflects the warmth of hand-painted ceramics, with a soft color palette, product photography that does the work justice and readable typography.

03

E-commerce development
Development of the online shop with a dual-taxonomy catalog, carefully crafted product pages, a wishlist, a user account area, a newsletter and handling of custom personalization requests.

04

Launch and SEO
Go-live, technical optimization and rankings for keywords around custom ceramics, handmade party favors and handmade gifts.

The results

A digital showcase for craftsmanship that paints stories

Il Pennello nell’Uovo’s website is now the digital showcase of an artisan workshop that makes hand-painted ceramics, personalized at the customer’s request. The dual catalog structure (by product line and by occasion) lets visitors discover pieces starting either from “what am I looking for?” or from “who is the gift for?”, while the wishlist and account area encourage return visits and loyalty from a passionate community.

I found this agency through a Google search and discovered a fantastic team. The Lavder team supported me (and put up with me) while building my e-commerce store a couple of years ago, and today they still guide me on related work like sponsored campaigns, a graphic refresh of the site and improvements. They’re quick to reply and responsive whenever something urgent comes up. Calling them skilled, knowledgeable, helpful, reliable and competent never quite does them justice. Highly recommended (6 stars and more)
